Birthday Girly
Happy Birthday Sena! 17 year ago, Sena was born in Mill Valley, aka heaven on earth. She was born on a gorgeous warm May evening. Before she was born, Guy took me, my mom and Solveig to the Marin Farmers Market in San Rafael and we bought heavenly sweet peas cut straight from the garden to decorate the set. The fragrance of fresh cut sweet peas is like nothing on earth and can only be described as "an embrace of the fragrance of summer's past"...walking in the air.

Gretel the Grad
Last night Sol attended a graduation party that was themed famous couples. When the guests rsvp, they're assigned half of a famous couple. Sol was assigned Gretel of Hansel and Gretel. The kids came up with great ideas: Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan, Tarzan and Jane, Pebbles and BamBam, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, Angelina and Brad, you get the idea... I tried like anything to find a vintage dirndl around the shops, etsy and ebay that might work for her, but we ended up buying one of those sexy German Beer Hall girl costumes online...I was really worried that it would be too much; but it turned out great! She looked lovely and had a great time.

The Night Fantastic
Photo via Seamus
Guy and I drove Seamus to the Mall the other night so he could have a meet-up with his friends from the west coast who visited DC for the ever-popular 8th grade trip. He hasn't seen most of them since we moved east and we were really pleased to live close by so we could connect with them. We never found the west coast kids. His pal texted him from the tour bus saying they were "driving from NYC to the Mall", and Seamus thought they meant "The Mall"...but the west coast kids never made it to the district that night; they were in the Mall at Pentagon City dining in a food court! Funny how 8th graders communicate...we decided to make the best of a lovely night with another tour of the monuments shining.

Millinery
Fascinator - the word originally referred to a fine, lacy head covering akin to a shawl and
made from wool or lace like these two worn in the portrait of Theda Bara (left) and by Solveig (right). So pretty and glamorous. I am determined to crochet one some day! I see the term "Fascinator" describing amazing headpieces and accessories on Etsy that are really over the top; and, although there is a time and place for those, I really love the traditional version of the sweet little cap.
