Winter Still Awhile

Yesterday was a lovely day around DC; the kind that makes you go outside and sweep the walk and watch the birds and dream of spring. Will there be snow tomorrow?

Must Have New Old Timey

Checking out Apartment Therapy, I clicked on these sweet teacups and bowls at elsa+sam Dishware Boutique in my beloved Portland. The old-fashioned graphics and brilliant glaze by Circa Ceramics look solid and touchable like dominoes and piano keys.

Ribbon of lemon peel
Crushed ice

Chill 2 martini glasses.

Fill a shaker with ice and add all ingredients. Shake and pour into chilled glasses. Garnish each with lemon peel.

Light Blue Year

A new year and a new color scheme: On filmmaker Wim Wender's official website, I was doing research about the documentary he made about legendary Japanese Director, Yasujiro Ozu called Tokyo Ga. There is no DVD as yet; however, I moseyed to Wender's gallery of photography and came across #49 The Orange Building, Havana! Seems I found the color scheme I've been leaning toward for the last 10 days. The same light blue keeps turning up.

Wender's Picture Haiku

Some colors were reoccurring
all the time in Havana.
The explanation I was given
for all those cars
of the same light blue, was
that a couple of years ago
blue had been the only paint available.
There had been green or yellow years as well.

Semillon Emergency

I went to Dean and DeLuca in Georgetown recently to buy a bottle of Semillon. I wanted to recreate a memorable lunch Guy and I had at the restaurant Solitary in Leura, NSW ages ago. We lunched on chestnut celery root soup with porcini oil and a gorgeous bottle of Semillon! I searched for a bottle of Tyrrell's or Tulloch Semillon to go with this home made version of the chestnut soup.

There wasn't a single bottle in the place; not even a blend! Too bad because the nutty, honey flavor of the Semillon complements the chestnut soup in an extraordinary way!
The hunt is on, I will find you.

Before our amazing lunch, we visited the Mt. Tomah Botanic Garden, where I snapped this photo of Puya berteroniana, an incredibly gorgeous and striking plant with true turquoise blooms!

Chloe Malle

Vanity Fair online is a blast to visit and today I took a break and caught up on vitals of the lovely Chloe Malle, only child of the talented and beautiful Candy Bergen. Here is the scoop on Chloe via VF-

Vintage Florida

We left the snowy and frigid Mid Atlantic for a couple of days to travel toward the sun in South Carolina and Florida for the new year. Our family hasn't spent any time in the panhandle of Florida and we found beautiful beaches and gorgeous light - I really miss the bright light where we live now and this trip really cured that. Along the stretch between Panama City and lovely Rosemary Beach there was a little seashell souvenir shop. It was FILLED with old and new shells, gorgeous bleachy corals and a helpful shopkeeper.

Resolution - Wild Caught!

JULIEN MACDONALD fashion designer -

"My own resolution is that I'm going to try to be more adventurous with my own clothes and ditch black. My advice to everyone else is to enjoy their clothes. Go shopping – it doesn't all have to be designer. We have been blessed with one of the best high streets so I say go for it and be wild."

These cocktail dresses look wild and I love 'em!
