Nut Tree California

This dress reminds me of The Nut Tree in Vacaville, California. I visited the original once before it closed forever. I saw a post about stitchery at The Nut Tree in the 1970's on Cathy of California's blog a few months ago. Here are some classic vintage pictures of the landmark travel plaza at its zenith.

Little Marimekko Lost

I have a sweet little faded unikko blouse in my store on Etsy. It's dated and faded just the way I like it. When I was 16, my Grandma and I made a gorgeous hand tied quilt out of this pattern:

I had the quilt forever and always enjoyed its Finnish wonderfulness at the beach or in the forest to lay down or sit upon and play with my babies. One sad day, I had to leave a picnic before everyone else and my friend said, "don't worry I'll bring it with me when I go home..." I knew I would never see my quilt again! I knew it and it was gone. Today I have found the very same sheet at vintagedame on Etsy and I will buy it and make myself a new quilt. yay.

Groovy marimekko, baby

Seneca Rocks

We had the perfect camping trip! One of our favorite pastimes is to drive a couple of hours out of dc to a tidy little campground called Seneca Shadows. We pitch our tents and get our spectator chairs lined up, pour refreshments and watch the rock climbers try to make it off the rocks by sunset. Mind you, we don't climb ourselves. Its very exciting to watch their progress!

We eat.

Explore, eat more and sleep in the great outdoors.

Treestyle

My mom has been collecting pitchers since before I can remember and she transferred her passion to me. I found an elegant faux bois pitcher at an estate sale in bethesda. I find cool fake wood accessories in met home and elle decor but haven't found any lovelies to bring home until today.

I think that faux bois is about texture as much as it is about color. Is veneer faux bois? I don't think so...here is a sweet milk glass flower bowl from VintageEye on Etsy:

Mine is yellow - but, I think I like it better finished white like in the photo. Both versions here:

Summer and Mrs. Bliss

Thankfully, the weather in DC is lovely today; not too hot or humid. A perfect day to wear a summery dress and power down the air conditioning! We visited Dumbarton Oaks for the first time. The estate and surrounding gardens are spectacular. Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss purchased the estate in 1920. It sits at the highest point in Georgetown. The couple hired landscape gardener, Beatrix Farrand to design the gardens - lovely! We will visit again soon.
