Early Morning Coco

Source: Chanel/Photo O.S

This morning I woke up to NPR's Susan Stamberg's voice, which I continued to peacefully sleep through until I realized that she said she was visiting the flat of Coco Chanel and was accompanied on the amazing tour by Chanel archivist, Odile Babin. I immediately jumped out of bed and made coffee to read the article and see the photographs of her lovely home. The home is opulent as one would suspect and Stamberg sounds giddy as always being in the private apartments of the legendary designer. She also revealed at the end of the piece that Chanel's apartment had no bedroom! It wasn't needed for she spent every night at the nearby Hôtel Ritz. How grand!

Long Winter's Day and Night

Bear at 9:00 am - DC is pretty much shut down today.

Seamus at noon - Let the Wild Rumpus Start - the fellas shoveled the walk and the driveway. Guy walked down to the local market to pick up some orange juice. He was charged $11 for one gallon of OJ!

5:00 pm - Cozy and warm. Watched a couple of movies and had some happy times indoors. Sena's friend, Madeline made some gorgeous and delicious raspberry swirl refrigerator cookies. They were eaten before I could snap pictures. Solveig has cabin fever already!

Carolopolis

Charleston - I am so excited to visit! The city is famous for extraordinary historic preservation and special low-country style. I love the Lee brothers, Matt and Ted's fabulous cookbook,

Can't wait to try boiled peanuts with barbecue sauce! More to look forward to:

The Language of Thriftiness - DIY Holiday

This post is a list of favorite sources of inspiration and instruction for do-it-yourself projects! Here are some fun looking crafts that I've come across that look easy to make for holiday gifts/decorating:

We have a tree skirt that is red and black and so cute in a prairie sort of way and since our living room in the house we lease is some kind of peach-bandaid-nude, it may work; but, if it doesn't, Martha Stewart's latest issue of Living has this pattern in warm red and orangy family and it works well together. I may try it right away; our tree is up and naked.

These decorative pillows are really cute and make use of glorious old or new concert t-shirts. I'm showing my kids how to make these for friends to give as gifts. They are in the fabulous ReadyMade mag -  the concert t-shirt how-to is here.

Finally, the gorgeous Button Ring how-to in Craftzine! This publication has easy to follow instructions and contributors from just about everywhere. These will make lovely vintage-y treasures!

EtsyJantzen Knits - In Clover Vintage

I grew up in and around Portland and I loved the iconic diving girl that represented Jantzen Knitting Mills, a manufacturer of swimsuits and sportswear. John A. Zehntbauer and Carl Jantzen founded the Portland Knitting Company in 1910, They produced sweaters, woolen hosiery and other knitted goods in the upstairs space, and sold them in the retail outlet downstairs.

I have a pretty Jantzen Sweater Vest from the late 70s-early 80s in my Etsy store, In Clover Vintage for sale to rev up the holidays for $18 and FREE SHIPPING!

Paulette: glamour in the thirties

Beautiful actress Paulette Goddard started her career as a Ziegfield Girl in the twenties and became a star when she was cast in Modern Times with Charlie Chaplin! She married (allegedly) the beloved comic in the thirties and went on to marry a few others. She totally rocked her wardrobe - her costumes were fab, fab, fab!
