Halloween Marionettes

My friend Lisa used to visit family in Czech Republic and one time they brought home beautiful folk art illustrations by Josef Lada, who was popular in 1920s. These hideously frightening antique marionettes are from Czech Marionettes and a couple of these beauties are inspired by figures in Josef Lada's illustrations like the old, green waterman!

The Wild Thing

My wild thing at 7

Too old to trick-or-treat? No way!

My baby is nearly too old to trick-or-treat! I told him that 13 is the last year. He is dreaming of his best costume for his final epic trick-or-treat Halloween. After seeing WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, he would be so satisfied to trick-or-treat as Max and growl and scare everybody he sees; however, he thinks Max's furry costume only for little kids! Most 13 year old boys go as a creepy, death-clad ghoul; but mine won't if I can make a Max big enough for him!

Serious Vintage - Zac Posen

Zac Posen Pre Fall 2009 Collection has too many gorgeous forties-inspired looks! There is a lot of wearable va-va-voom! Take me out, please! Mr. Posen's website has a little treasure of a film short titled, Ma Vendeusse, about dressing like a lady. It is beautifully photographed in the super 8 style. After you view the vintage inspired clothes click on the link, FEATURE on the right. Be sure to check it out!

Austin Airstream Madness

Upon arriving in Austin, we realized we were in the epicenter of vintage Airstream living! This restored abode serves as bedroom two of the Cloud House at Verde Camp. We were comfy staying here and enjoyed the cool dwell-ish restoration and midcentury repro decor. Airstream trailers are all over Austin. They accomodate art galleries, clothing stores and the usual tasty take away. We don't see them around DC much.

More Austin

As we were leaving for the ACL Fest, our youngest asked us to return from Austin with a stuffed armadillo. We found a cute, yet decrepit armadillo at Uncommon Objects. The shop was a blast on the rainy saturday with a magnificent inventory of antiquities. Unfortunately, the cost of the armadillo was $100 and it seemed too frail to stuff into our suitcase, so we brought him a longhorns hoodie instead. Sorry kid.

Uncommon Objects had an uncommonly large collection of vintage jewelry. It was extra special! The rest of the vintage clothing boutiques were just okay (more cleaning and pressing, please!)

Decorative grasses were bountiful in every garden!
Ripe pomegranates growing in the front yard!
Beautiful blue skies!

Whitewash

The washed oak dining table that I'm pining for...

After ages of living with the well used and not often loved craft/dining table, we are ready to break bread with a new dining table. Wisteria's range includes this simple design. I like that there aren't any leaves. Don't know about the bench situation and how that would work...maybe just the table with different chairs altogether. Keep dreaming.

Minimalista

This fall classic, luxurious dresses appear in almost every collection. I found a simple and sophisticated wool dress with dolman sleeves by Gillian that may be snapped up at my Etsy store, In Clover Vintage for $48

Lanvin - the realist.

Dries Van Noten - pressing on, come what may.

Max Mara - gorgeous, classic.

Howdy Howdy Howdy

Everything was better in Texas last weekend when we attended the ACL Festival in Austin! What a treasure of a place! I fulfilled my dream of seeing Dave Grohl thunder on his sweet turquoise drums and watching the sun set with my love. When I return to this friendly city, I will get some swell western wear from Allens Boots on South Congress near our guest cottage, Verde Camp, the cutest 'lil house in Texas!
