My friend Lisa used to visit family in Czech Republic and one time they brought home beautiful folk art illustrations by Josef Lada, who was popular in 1920s. These hideously frightening antique marionettes are from Czech Marionettes and a couple of these beauties are inspired by figures in Josef Lada's illustrations like the old, green waterman!

My wild thing at 7
Too old to trick-or-treat? No way!
My baby is nearly too old to trick-or-treat! I told him that 13 is the last year. He is dreaming of his best costume for his final epic trick-or-treat Halloween. After seeing WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, he would be so satisfied to trick-or-treat as Max and growl and scare everybody he sees; however, he thinks Max's furry costume only for little kids! Most 13 year old boys go as a creepy, death-clad ghoul; but mine won't if I can make a Max big enough for him!

More Austin
As we were leaving for the ACL Fest, our youngest asked us to return from Austin with a stuffed armadillo. We found a cute, yet decrepit armadillo at Uncommon Objects. The shop was a blast on the rainy saturday with a magnificent inventory of antiquities. Unfortunately, the cost of the armadillo was $100 and it seemed too frail to stuff into our suitcase, so we brought him a longhorns hoodie instead. Sorry kid.
Uncommon Objects had an uncommonly large collection of vintage jewelry. It was extra special! The rest of the vintage clothing boutiques were just okay (more cleaning and pressing, please!)

Whitewash

After ages of living with the well used and not often loved craft/dining table, we are ready to break bread with a new dining table. Wisteria's range includes this simple design. I like that there aren't any leaves. Don't know about the bench situation and how that would work...maybe just the table with different chairs altogether. Keep dreaming.

Howdy Howdy Howdy

Everything was better in Texas last weekend when we attended the ACL Festival in Austin! What a treasure of a place! I fulfilled my dream of seeing Dave Grohl thunder on his sweet turquoise drums and watching the sun set with my love. When I return to this friendly city, I will get some swell western wear from Allens Boots on South Congress near our guest cottage, Verde Camp, the cutest 'lil house in Texas!
